BlackBerry Phone Setup« Back to support home | « Back to email support This article provides instructions on how to properly configure BlackBerry's Email Client for use with TLS encryption on any of our services. In order to configure your Blackberry device to use e-mail, you will need to have an activated BlackBerry Internet Service plan added to your current cellular phone plan. Two methods of adding a personal e-mail account are described in this article: Using your device and using the Web-based BIS system. Setup Email using BlackBerry DeviceThese instructions are intended for users who wish to configure their e-mail account using their BlackBerry device. Before following these instructions, please ensure that:
Step 1: Access E-mail SettingsNavigate to your applications listing and launch the “Email Settings” by clicking on the icon on your device home screen.
Step 2: Terms of ServiceRead over the legal terms and conditions as displayed and either Accept or Disagree the Terms and Conditions.
Step 3: Email InformationWhen prompted for your e-mail address and your password, enter your complete e-mail address and then select “Next”.
Step 4: ConfirmationYou should then be prompted with a success message which will indicate that your account has been added successfully!
Web-Based: Accessing BIS for the First TimeThese instructions are intended for users who have not set up a BlackBerry Internet Service account through their cellular carrier's BIS Web page. Step 1: Access BlackBerry Internet Service WebsiteNavigate to your cellular providers BlackBerry Internet Service website and click “Register” underneath the login section. The following screen will provide the BlackBerry Internet Service Terms of Service. Read over the Terms of Service and select the appropriate option whether you agree or disagree.
Step 2: BlackBerry PIN and IMEI/ESNAfter completing the Terms of Service screen you will be prompted to enter your BlackBerry's PIN and IMEI/ESN information. If you are unsure how to locate your PIN and/or IMEI/ESN please refer to this article in the BlackBerry Knowledge Base.
Step 3: Email InformationThe next screen will ask if you wish to add a Personal Email Account or create a new BlackBerry Email Account. On the top section, enter your full email address and your email password. The Blackberry Internet Service will automatically connect to your account and check for emails every 15 minutes.
Step 4: ConfirmationIf BlackBerry was able to successfully connect to your account, it will display a confirmation message.
Web-Based: Current BIS UserThese instructions are for users who have previously created a BlackBerry Internet Service account. Before beginning Step 1, please log in to your BIS account. Step 1: Add New AccountUpon logging in to your BIS account, select the “Setup Account” button under the section titled “Existing E-mail Account”.
Step 2: Email InformationOn the “Add e-mail account” screen enter your full email address and your email password. The select the “Next” button.
Step 3: ConfirmationIf BlackBerry was able to successfully connect to your account, it will display a confirmation message.
